L’appartamento si trova a Levanto, in un villino unifamiliare dei primi del ‘900 separato dalla spiaggia da una passeggiata di appena qualche metro.

In fase di brief iniziale i committenti avevano espresso la necessità di tre camere da letto, due bagni, uno spazio studio, una grande cucina e un grande soggiorno, in appena 104mq.

Capito subito che non sarebbe stato possibile soddisfare integralmente tutte le richieste, abbiamo deciso di interpretarle e ottimizzando funzioni e spazi.

Si accede all’appartamento direttamente dalla passeggiata, attraverso l’originale scala di accesso al villino, in marmi policromi, tra cui il localissimo rosso Levanto.

Se prima l’ingresso era un corridoio, che divideva le due stanze fronte mare, ora due grandi cerchiature metalliche ci hanno permesso di unire i due vani fronte mare. Sulla sinistra il soggiorno, sulla destra la cucina. Nella parte a nord sono state ricavate due camere da letto e uno studiolo/camera degli ospiti. Nel buffer tra queste due zone si concentra la parte tecnica: due bagni e un vano tecnico.

Il fil rouge di questo progetto è la falegnameria, con il suo blu profondo e il suo rovere che si snoda lungo l’intero appartamento, come una lunga onda che si staglia contro l’orizzonte.

Questo fil rouge diventa un dispositivo che ospita funzioni: da cucina a panca per il tavolo da pranzo, da mobile TV a libreria; nel corridoio piega e diventa nicchia dove cambiarsi una volta rientrati dalla spiaggia e poi vani per l’immagazzinamento. Nella camera dei ragazzi diventa una giocosa scultura-letto, per poi trasformarsi in scrivania, armadiatura e letto a ribalta nello studiolo. Infine si chiude nella camera padronale, sotto forma di armadiatura e testiera del letto.

Qua tornano i temi a noi cari, come il traguardare tra gli ambienti mettendoli in comunicazione visiva, pur mantenendoli separati, così da rendere lo spazio percettivamente più ampio.

L’uso del legno, tra il serio e il giocoso, ma sempre con riferimenti al mare, esprime anche la volontà di continuare a esplorare le possibilità che questo bellissimo materiale offre. Le linee curve delle panche, i cui supporti metallici sembrano delle pinne di tavole da surf, e le linee curve dei letti a castello nella camera dei ragazzi, portano dentro la casa un immaginario legato alla spiaggia e alla vita sul mare.

Crediamo che in questo progetto la forbice si allarghi: il giocoso è più giocoso del solito e il serio è più fine ed elegante del solito. La casa tiene insieme precisione funzionale, ottimizzazione dello spazio e una forte componente materica, costruita attorno al rapporto tra falegnameria, luce e mare.

La falegnameria lascia veramente poco spazio ad altri arredi di importanti dimensioni, ma questo era l’unico modo per riuscire a condensare in 104 mq tutte le funzioni richieste.

The apartment is located in Levanto, in an early 20th-century detached villa separated from the beach by a promenade just a few metres wide.

During the initial briefing phase, the clients expressed the need for three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a study area, a large kitchen and a large living room, all within just 104 sqm.

Once it was immediately clear that it would not be possible to fully satisfy all the requests, we decided to interpret them, optimizing functions and spaces.

The apartment is accessed directly from the promenade, through the original entrance staircase of the villa, made of polychrome marbles, including the highly local Rosso Levanto.

Where the entrance was once a corridor dividing the two seafront rooms, two large metal-framed openings now allowed us to connect the two seafront spaces. The living room is on the left, the kitchen on the right. Two bedrooms and a small study/guest room were created in the northern part of the apartment. In the buffer between these two areas, the technical core is concentrated: two bathrooms and a technical room.

The fil rouge of this project is the custom joinery, with its deep blue and oak wood running through the entire apartment, like a long wave standing out against the horizon.

This fil rouge becomes a device that hosts functions: from kitchen to bench for the dining table, from TV unit to bookcase; in the corridor, it folds and becomes a niche where one can change after returning from the beach, followed by storage compartments. In the children’s bedroom, it becomes a playful bed-sculpture, before turning into a desk, wardrobe and foldaway bed in the study. Finally, it concludes in the master bedroom, in the form of a wardrobe and bed headboard.

Here, themes that are dear to us return, such as creating views between rooms, placing them in visual communication while keeping them separate, so as to make the space perceptually larger.

The use of wood, somewhere between serious and playful, yet always with references to the sea, also expresses the desire to continue exploring the possibilities offered by this beautiful material. The curved lines of the benches, whose metal supports resemble surfboard fins, and the curved lines of the bunk beds in the children’s room bring into the house an imagery linked to the beach and life by the sea.

We believe that in this project the range widens: the playful is more playful than usual, and the serious is finer and more elegant than usual. The house brings together functional precision, spatial optimization and a strong material component, built around the relationship between joinery, light and the sea.

The custom joinery leaves very little room for other large pieces of furniture, but this was the only way to condense all the required functions into 104 sqm.
